"Don't forget the women's prisons are full of baby-faced stinkers."
Hayley Ryan is penniless, husbandless and pregnant. After her husband ran off, stealing her grandfather's legacy, Hayley must find a way to take care of herself - and her baby. The only hope left is a secret claim her grandfather had had but never struck anything on. Without looking back, Hayley decides to try it - at least its a place to stay and a hope. Jacob Ryan is none too pleased that Old Ben's granddaughter is taking over the claim instead of it getting sold to their farm. But as he gets to know her better, perhaps he can see more than the fresh spring on the land to interest him.
My Opinion: This was a good book. Poor Hayley - such rotten luck. You have to admire her though as she works hard to get control of her life. Though she is frustrating in her stubbornness at times. Jake is a good solid character that is a good match to her. Their relationship is sweet, though a little slow and stalled at times, it rounds out nicely. Jake's family make for good side characters once you warm up to them. Altogether, a fun book with nicely placed action.
