Change of Heart

Laura Abbot
Contemporary Romance

"He could only hope blackened pancakes weren't an omen."

It's been a year since Trent's wife passed away, and his 7-year-old daughter is still struggling - they both are really.  But it's time to move on - and a dream job opportunity in his old town is perfect!  But how will young Kylie adjust to being in a new town, away from her grandparents?  He can only hope that he can make her happy there will old friends around to help.  What he wasn't prepared for was his ex-wife being Kylie's teacher - a woman Kylie instantly likes.  Libby is completely surprised to see Trent in her classroom, introducing a sad little girl as her new student.  But whatever problems they had 12 years ago, it's in the past - isn't it?  Libby has a great job, a nice boyfriend and a good future.  Why would she let her ex-husband and his little girl change any of that?  But when sparks begin to fly again, will the past repeat itself?

My Opinion: I was not the biggest fan of this book.  It started out a bit abrupt and focusing too much on other loves and past failures.  Libby seemed over-reactive and Trent seems to be moving on too fast.  But as the book progresses, despite the apparent easily accepted of 12-year-old dormant love, it gets better.  However, it's one of those books that really makes you want to cry - at least it makes me want to cry.  The relationships and feelings were all very realistic at this point in the story and made for a great story.  The conclusion didn't make as much sense as I'd like, but it didn't leave you hanging.  I can see that others would enjoy this story, but I wasn't a huge fan.  I was well written and compelling - just not my cup of tea.

A free copy of this book was given for review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.

  1. Pretty cover, though. Too bad it didn't live up to it.
