A Fistful of Fire

Misti Wolanski
Book 1 of Chronicles of Marsdenfel
Fantasy Romance

"The often-mocked proverb 'Never cross an expecting she-dwarf' can apply to humans, too."

Avonale has known since she was young that hers was not destined to be a happy life.  Born as a royal bastard is hard enough, but when your father is a twisted fire mage and your mother an elf things get a little more complicated.  Add to that a prophecy that will probably end with your death and you have a scared little girl who has run away from home.  That is what Prince Aiden finds when he discovers a young waif in the woods and brings her home.  There Avonale must hide who she really is while trying to make a place for herself.  But the king recognizes that she is different, and the Princes notices her - often.  As she grows up in this land, can she continue to hide from her destiny, or must she face it after all?

My Opinion: This is a fun fantasy book.  With a complex background and many good characters, I got a little confused at first, but ended up really enjoying the book.  The romance is a bit light, especially in the beginning while the main characters are younger.  Though not an "intense" romance, it is there and is fun and light.  Aiden is a wonderful character, full of love and a bit of arrogance.  Avonale is a sweet character that you simply love.  I would have liked the last few chapters to last longer and give a little more to the story (things were a bit fast paced), but I guess I never really want most books to end either.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and opinion are 100% my own.
