Young Adult Romance
Book 1 in Port Fare Series
"He even had a way of making the scruffy cowboy boots he always wore look hot."
Maggie has never been able to depend on anyone. She has no real friends and her mother has been drunk most of her life. Feeling alone and worthless, she struggles to stay alive and take care of her ungrateful mother. Looking at her, most would think she was on drugs, but she wasn't. And that is just what Seth Prescott needs to find out. Being assigned as an undercover cop in the local high school in order to catch local drug dealers has its hazards. This time, it comes in the form of Maggie. Seth finds he wants to take care of her, help her in ways beyond the call of duty. But when their worlds collide, will they and their love survive?
My Opinion: This was a good, but intense read. Being thrust into a world of alcohol addiction, heroin, child abuse and more is not for the light reader. But the author did a wonderful job pulling the reader into everything. Maggie is a great character who struggles realistically with all that life throws at her. Seth is strong, determined and sweetly falls in love. Okay, it does seem a little creepy in a 21 Jump Street kind of way, but you get used to it. (If you don't know what I mean, you haven't watched enough Johnny Depp in the 80s). You do kind of get over the fact that Maggie is "jailbait". The supporting characters are wonderful and really fill out the story. All together a gripping story I would recommend. The next two books sound good too, I hope they come out soon.
I was given a free copy of this book to review. No other compensation was given. The summary and opinion are 100% my own.
