The Wedding Promise

The Wedding Promise (Harlequin Heartwarming)Judy Christenberry
Contemporary Romance

"He couldn't wait to confront Katie Peters.  Hill.  Katherine Hill.  Whatever her name was, she was in big trouble."

Katie is independent and the only one that has pulled her family through the past ten years.  She has a successful bakery in their small town and helped out her younger siblings after their father died.  But at what cost?  Katie didn't think that she regretted turning down Gabe's proposal ten years ago, but when Gabe turns up in town again she's not so sure those old feelings are gone.  Gabe has come home to the small town he grew up in to take care of his grandmother's estate.  However a surprise awaits him - he's only get his inheritance if he marries Katie within a year!  Gabe can't believe his grandmother would do this.  But there is an out - she can marry someone else.  But does Gabe really want to give her up again?

My Opinion: This was a promising book that I felt fell flat.  The premise got me excited and waiting for a funny story that leads to true love.  But in the end, it felt like a wrapping up of a series that didn't have enough oomph to really be it's own stand-alone story.  Katie never really realizes that she might have made a mistake before.  She never comes to any real emotional realization at all.  Gabe goes from angry to in love so fast you are completely lost.  There is some fun witty banter and the side characters seem fun - I would have liked to read some of their stories.  Still a sweet ending and a light story, but I think it would have been better to read it at the end of the series rather than the beginning.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.

  1. Its so disappointing when a book does that. You almost wish the author could go back and rewrite those bits.
