The First Crocus

Marion Robinson
Contemporary Romance

"A girl could make a fool of herself, staring."

Jo Hartley just wants to escape Canada to Hawaii and enjoy a nice vacation before her new job begins.  However, her best friend has other ideas as she tries to set Jo up with her neighbor, Kevin.  Kevin is attractive, a widower......and wants little to do with her.  That's fine with her.  Except, he's not just her friend's neighbor, he's her new boss.  As they have to work together, they must fight an irrational attraction as they find themselves thrown together.  But soon Jo finds that maybe she doesn't want to fight it.  But how can she convince Kevin that she wants to be with him when he will barely talk to him?

My Opinion: Although this book has some great backdrops, I found it hard to get into.  The characters could have used some more flushing out to give them some more depth.  Jo is fun, a determined woman who loves the outdoors.  Kevin is very reserved and doesn't seem to open up too much, probably due to the loss of his wife, but he doesn't dwell on it.  Their romance is there, but there is no explanation of feelings - they don't like each other and then suddenly they are in love.  Overall the action and pace are good and keep the story going.  In all, it was a light read but I would have liked to get to know the characters a lot more and hear a little less about the scenery.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
