"If the air force wanted you to have a wife, they'd have issued you one."
Running away from a prestigious wedding is just the start of the changes in Darcy's life. Not able to face marriage to man she doesn't love, Darcy finds herself at the mercy of a kind stranger who gives her a ride. But Bill Hays is more than what he seems. When they end up lying to his dying mother about an engagement, life gets even more complicated. Darcy isn't ready for another ill-advised wedding, but how can she break the heart of this sweet woman. Bill's military life is dangerous and he doesn't want to risk leaving a wife as a widow. But he would do most anything for his mother. But what happens when motivations change and perhaps it's not all just for Momma's sake?
My Opinion: Although it had some good excitement at first, I felt like this book dragged on and on without really getting much of anywhere that you didn't know it would go. There were few twists or turns to surprise you or take the characters into new places and situations. Darcy has little depth to her with no explanations for her past and changes for the future. Bill is a little better as he learns the importance of love in his life. Their romance is light and sweet, but they get so caught up on repeating the same feelings and doubts over and over again that you feel stilted with them. There were several loose ends that were never resolved for me and I would have liked to have more details to create the world the characters were in. Overall a disappointment.
