Kill Shot

Anne Patrick
Contemporary Romance
Christian Romance
Book 1 in Wounded Heroes Series

"It was true; dynamite did come is small packages.  Only it wasn't usually wrapped as nicely as she was."

Someone is trying to kill Kory Wagner.  Not that this is a really new feeling for her, but it's unusual for it to happen now that she is out of the army and back in the US.  The death of her sister has left her searching for answers, unwilling to believe the report of a car accident when the evidence points to murder.  But who would want to kill her sister...and now her?  She will find out, and she doesn't need anyone's help.  Sheriff Sean Harding isn't about to let anything happen to Kory on his watch, though she is making it difficult for him to protect her and get to the bottom of this mystery.  As they learn to work together to solve this mystery, Sean might just find that he was more than professional reasons to keep her alive...and not at arms length.

My Opinion: This was an interesting book with lots of character depth.  Kory is a war vet, dealing with severe PTSD as well as the death of her sister and someone out to kill her.  She doesn't seem phased as much by the things that have happened since she's been home, but the stress of her experiences in war haunt her.  A reluctant damsel in distress, her independence shines through and almost pushes everyone away.  Sean is a good man, though we don't see much of him except in how he is with Kory.  They work well together though, despite the possible problems, and their romance is light and sweet.  Many side characters fill in the story and the town, leaving what I assume to be open avenues for later books.  The plot keeps a fairly good level of suspense and excitement, though it gets a little preachy for my tastes when it comes to the Christian slant.  Overall a good book that will leave you guessing until the end.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
