Shades of Gray

Carol A. Spradling
Historical Romance

"Grayson didn't need to enter the building to know the busy-bodies were feasting on some unfortunate sinner's remains."

Kat Bailey didn't have much choice but to sail to America and meet a stranger willing to marry her.  Though her groom is highly respected in her new town, she soon discovers there is nothing respectable about him.  Beaten and scared, she escapes.  But where can she run?  Surely anyone is better than her would-be-fiance, right?  Grayson Gregory has a dark past.  Rumors and accusations follow him everywhere, but he lives with it.  Barely.  But when an innocent girl stumbles onto his porch to escape her fiance, the past threatens to repeat itself.  Can Gray keep her safe while convincing her that the rumors about him aren't true....well, at least not all of them.

My Opinion: This was a wonderful book full of mystery and love.  The story and characters are engaging and draw you into their world.  Kat is a wonderful character who is trying to take control of her life and her future despite her circumstances.  Gray is a dark character - haunted by his past but still a sweet and great character.  The romance was sweet and natural and left me rooting for their love.  Amazing realism in the events, emotions and reactions of all involved.  The plot unfolded while keeping you engaged and anxious for what happens next.  This is definitely one to keep you up reading all night.  Altogether a wonderful read you don't want to miss.

I was given a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
