The Ugly Step-Sister Strikes Back

Sariah Wilson
Contemporary Romance
Young Adult

"I sighed, because that was what unrequited love made you do.  Sigh with self-pity."

Mattie Lowe is not Cinderella.  That honor would seem to belong to her step-sister, Ella.  Pretty, smart, nice, and dating the guy Mattie loves....Ella is too perfect.  Which makes Mattie the ugly step-sister, right?  But life isn't perfect for Mattie.  With her mother's constant criticisms, the school "mean girl" out to make her life miserable, and being forced to stand aside while Jake, the guy she is in love with, dates Ella....Mattie is miserable.  Fed up with it all, she decides to take her life into her own hands, and make her own happily-ever-after.  Starting with running for Senior Class President...against Jake.  But is this a recipe for revenge, for love, or for disaster?

My Opinion: This was a super cute young adult book.  With great witty humor and interesting characters, it was a delight to read.  There was a good balance between the predictable teenage love story and a few surprises along the way to make sure you're paying attention.  Mattie is a spunky girl with some self-esteem issues and some excellent wit that continues through the whole story.  Jake is a sweet guy, a bit of a push over, but a wonderful prince charming when it comes down to it.  A sweet and lighthearted read with a nice twist on a classic tale.  One to recommend.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.

  1. Your review was good and I think this sounds really cute! Love that the characters aren't "perfect". Flaws make things interesting. :)
