Sass Meets Class

Jill Hughey
Historical Romance

"Even with the patronizing note, his richly toned voice speaking her name made her innards flutter."

Susan just wanted a place to call home.  Not to be forced to move yet again when her father got tired of the life they were living - and that's exactly what she intends to find in Arizona.  A small-town life running a store for her father and looking after her younger sister will suit her just fine.  That is, until Alexander Dorchester joins them in their wagon train and invade her small town.  The uptight Englishman and his even more arrogant mother do not equate into her picture of a happy future.  But somehow the man wriggles into her mind and, perhaps, her heart.  But what would a proud, English lord want to do with a nobody like her?  Will they discover what they really want from the future?

My Opinion: This was a fun American historical read with a bit of a melting pot feeling to it.  With a large mixture of characters, the hodge-podge town embraces the feeling of the era as many American small towns began to form and try their luck in the West.  With fun characters, especially the main two, you get a real feel for the setting and background of the story.  Susan is a sweet girl, though a bit naive and stubborn.  Alexander is a man who needs to figure out who he is, and how to deal with the woman he is coming to care for.  Their romance is slow and sweet as they both learn more about who they are and what they want.  A fun read and one that I would recommend.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
