Melinda Heads West

Robyn Corum
Historical Romance

"She was starting to see red - and was becoming a little less fond of the word 'ma'am' with every passing moment."

Melinda McCorkle just wants to claim the deed to the farm left by her uncle and return home - at least that's what she told her mother.  She is actually anxious for an adventure, just not quite this much of an adventure.  But when her hardships turn deadly, Melinda will have to choose her companions with care - especially when two men in particular start showing her attention that she's never had before.  But who should she choose?  The man who is older, stable and professing his love?  Or the man who is gruff, capricious, and makes her heart flutter?  Oh, and he's married.  Isn't he?

My Opinion: This was a cute historical read with a spunky main character.  Melinda is a woman on the brink of a new frontier and possibly a new life.  Though dropped into the middle of the story, the plot starts with a lot of action and adventure, though it slows down and settles into a more everyday life feel.  The characters are fun, with pretty good interplay between them all.  The book had a good historical feel to it, bringing the reader into the American frontier.  Though there seemed to be a lot of facts thrown around, it still felt pretty authentic.  The romance was well done, full of enough misunderstandings and gruffly sweet moments to make it fun.  Overall, a good read.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
