Rancher's Son

Leigh Duncan
Contemporary Romance

"They were going on a cattle drive.  Where the dirt and the dust, the sweat and the smell of cow droppings weren't exactly romantic."

Sarah's never been especially good at separating her personal feelings from her social work cases, something she needs to work on if she expects to be promoted instead of fired.  But this resolve is tested to its limit when little Jimmy is dumped on her doorstep just before Christmas.  All clues suggest that the boy's father is Ty Parker - local rancher and a man Sarah hasn't had the best of experiences with.  It's Sarah's job to try to reunite this father and son, no matter her misgivings.  Ty is pretty sure that Jimmy isn't his, though he'd love it if it were true.  Inviting the two of them along on a cattle drive is as much as he's willing to commit to until the blood results come back.  But things can change on the open road, for better and for worse.

My Opinion: This was a nice light read.  Much of the story focused on the main characters' relationship and attitude towards Jimmy rather than each other.  The romance was light but sweet.  The story progresses well with an interesting plot and a good mystery underlying it all.  Not a lot of side characters, which makes the story focus in on the three of them rather than spreading it out too much.  An interesting read, though again, I would have liked a little more romance rather than just personal growth.  Nevertheless, it was an entertaining read that I enjoyed.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
