The Last Witch

Debbie Dee
Fantasy Romance
Young Adult
Book 1 of Incenaga Trilogy

"When she had dreamed about the day she would leave the confines of her little farm, she never imagined it would be the same day she lost her freedom."

Emmeline has spent her whole life alone with her father in the forest, longing for the companionship of someone - anyone - else.  But the day soldiers enter the woods is the day her life turns upside-down.  The truth about her past comes to startling light.  She is an Incenaga witch - the last of her kind.  And she is engaged to a Prince whom she has never met.  Taken against her will, Emmeline must stay locked up in the palace as she waits for her fiance's arrival.  But just what will she learn about her past and her abilities while she is there?  And who is out to control her power before the prince can return and protect her?  And just why can't Emmeline stop thinking about the gamekeeper Erick, who seems to be the only person that doesn't treat her like she's a witch?

My Opinion: I really enjoyed this story.  It was fun, sweet, and had a bit of adventure throughout.  The romance I felt was a bit obvious, but really cute and sweet so that more than made up for it.  Emmeline is a strong character with a lot of determination that you just have to admire.  Erick is a strong character, who is a perfect hero with a couple of flaws thrown in to boot.  I love their story.  The plot is well created and leads you through the story while still managing a few good surprises and mysteries.  I felt there were a couple of loose ends that were never tied up, but perhaps they will play into the next book.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.

  1. What a great review! I think it would be worth reading. Who doesn't enjoy a prince and woodsman fighting over you? I can't wait for the 2013 books to start being released. There is a book that comes out March 1 that I am DYING TO READ! The book is called, "Stelladaur: Finding Tir Na Nog" by author S. L. Whyte. The story is a young adult fantasy novel with romance. The main character, a sixteen year-old boy, discovers he has unusual powers, which takes him on a journey of discovery. Check out the video on the book's website and you'll see why I will be first in line to get this one!!
