Book 3 of Jane Austen Diaries
Pride and Popularity, Persuaded, Emmalee, Mansfield Ranch, Northanger Alibi, Sensible & Sensational

"But hey, what girl doesn't like a guy to be impractical for her every now and then?"

Emmalee Bradford is out to prove that she is not selfish, despite what her neighbor Chase Anderson says.  In fact, she plans to use her talents to help new-girl Hannah gain both popularity and a great new boyfriend.  See?  She isn't stuck up.  But things don't go as Emma planned and life seems to get more complicated as Emma is forced to take a good look at herself and those around her.  It doesn't help that Chase is there to watch her every move.  Especially when he seems more interfering that he ever has been before.  Despite being the "knight in shining armor" from her childhood, Emma isn't sure how she likes his meddling.  In fact, she may find that she's not too sure how she feels about him at all.

My Opinion: I think this was a cute rendition of the story, as are all the books in the series.  With a cute modern slant, James is able to re-create this classic story with fun correlations between the stories.  This story had some great romance and made me smile.  I loved Chase's character (George Knightly) and the way he reacts to Emma.  Emma, as a character, is a hard one to love.  She's often like a train wreck - painful to watch but you can't make yourself turn away.  But despite that, she's a great character and this version is no different.  I loved the way she came across and learns her lessons as she finds out what love is really about.  I love this series and this author and can't wait for the next book!  (I must note, I originally read the first four books of this series out of order, and though the stories still work, the interplay of the side characters would have run more smoothly had I read them in order.)

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
