Author Interview: Wendy Knight

Wendy Knight, author of Fuedlings....

Fill in the blank favorites - Type of hero. Type of heroine.

I LOVE heroines who can take care of themselves, who don’t have to have a boy rescue them all the time. Maybe it’s because I’m small and helpless, but I like to read about tough girls. It empowers me!

Most writers are readers. What are some of the books you have on your nightstand and/or on your "must read" list?

Right this second I have Insurgent by Veronica Roth and Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. I don’t get time to read as much as I’d like, and I have a reading wish list that will take approximately eighteen-hundred years to complete.

Say your publisher has offered to fly you anywhere in the world to do research on an upcoming book, where would you most likely want to go?

Greece! Rome! Italy! I’ve never been outside the United States, but I daydream of going one day. I refuse to die before I get to see everything I want to see in this world.

What is your favorite genre to write?

Young Adult, because teenagers have so much potential in their lives! And Urban Fantasy, because I love the idea of magic and mystery right here in the world I live in.

Why do you choose to write clean/sweet romance?  Do you write steamy romance as well?

Nope, just clean romance. I have small children, and nieces and nephews. They’re my biggest fans! I don’t want to write something that would be inappropriate for them to read. And plus, anything beyond a kissing scene makes me blush like a fire hydrant.

What other things do you have planned with your writing for the rest of the year 2013?

The sequel to Feudlings comes out August 1. I’m also getting a couple other stories ready to submit to my publisher, so we’ll see if they make it out before the end of the year!

What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?

Seeing other people love my characters as much as I do. By far the greatest thing ever!

Do you have a favorite comment or question from a reader?

When does the next book come out? I love that! If they’re wondering, it means they loved the first one, and that makes me very, very happy.

How many books have you written, and how many of those have been published?

I’ve written five so far. Two have been published. One is about to be released. The other two are in the process of being ready for submission.

Please share about your book

It is young adult urban fantasy.

Arianna has been hunting Shane since she could throw her first spell. Now she’s falling in love with the nemesis she is prophesied to kill – until Shane tries to kill her first.

If you could sum your main character into five words, what would they be?

Magical, fiery, strong, vulnerable, infatuated

What are your hero and heroine of the story like?

Ari is uber-powerful, but uncomfortable in her own skin. She thinks she’s a monster because she’s unstoppable, and she trusts no one except her big brother.

Shane is laid-back, a regular teenager with a dark secret. He’s supposed to be fighting in a centuries-old war and hunting an arch-nemesis, not falling in love.

Use no more than two sentences. Why should we read your book?

Kick-butt heroine. Epic and doomed love story.
