Give us a bit of your background (where are you from, your family, traveling adventures)
I grew up in a small town close to Toronto, Canada, but now live a six hour drive north of the city. I spent my childhood with my nose in a book. The adventures of Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys and Trixie Belden began my love affair with mysteries and who dunnits. I love to travel and have visited 22 countries to date. That number should increase in the next few years as my husband and I housesit. We began doing it for friends five or six years ago and realized we enjoy it so much that we now offer our services to strangers. A stranger, we’ve quickly learned, is really just a friend we haven’t yet met. :)
What is your favorite genre to write?
I write the kinds of books I enjoy reading. They’re light, sweet and designed to entertain. If my stories sweep the reader into a fictional world where good triumphs evil, the bad guys get their comeuppance, the hero and heroine fall in love on their journey to a happilyeverafter, and the reader smiles or laughs out loud along the way, well, I’ve done my job.
What got you started on your writing journey?
Oddly enough, I never thought ordinary, every day people became writers. Then, 25 years ago I was introduced to the computer. The sound of fingers flying across the keyboard was, and still is,
one of my favorite things in the entire universe. It’s literally music to my ears, and I knew I’d found an instrument I could actually play!
Why do you choose to write clean/sweet romance? Do you write steamy romance as well?
As I mentioned earlier, I write the kinds of stories I want to read. I have no desire to squirm, fidget, or blush either as a writer or reader. I believe falling in love or solving a who dunnit does NOT require a physical time out. When it does, it can easily take place behind closed doors. Do I write steamy romance? No. Will I? Never! I’ll stop writing first.
What other things do you have planned with your writing for the next year or so?
Readers are demanding books number two (and three!) for both the Muriel Reeves Mystery series and Piedmont Island romantic suspense series, so this coming year I’ll be doing just that.
What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?
Making readers smile. Life’s too short to be unhappy.
How many books have you written, and how many of those have been published?
While I’ve completed six or seven complete manuscripts, the first few will never see the light of day. They were my training ground on how to write. When a friend read one of my first stories and mentioned she had tears in her eyes while she read one particular scene, I knew I would succeed.
The ability and power to manipulate a reader’s emotions is a superpower, and like any superpower it should be used responsibly. :)
Two of my books are available on Amazon: (1) FRANK, INCENSE, AND MURIEL, book 1 of the Muriel Reeves Mystery series, and (2) DEFENDING GLORY, book 1 of the Piedmont Island romantic suspense series. A collection of 4 short stories, (3) LOVE & JUST DESSERTS, will be released November 18, 2013.

FRANK, INCENSE, AND MURIEL is set the week before Christmas when the stress of the holidays is enough to frazzle anyone’s nerves. Tensions increase when a close friend begs Muriel to team up with a sexy private investigator to find a missing woman. Forced to deal with an embezzler, kidnapper, and femme fatale is bad enough, but add her zany family to the mix along with their desire to win the coveted DDAY (Death Defying Act of the Year) Award, and the situation can ONLY get worse.
FRANK, INCENSE, AND MURIEL is recipient of the 2011 Virginia Romance Writers HOLT Medallion Award of Merit for "Novel with Strong Romantic Elements". It also received 5 stars and is a Top Pick on Night Owl Reviews.
DEFENDING GLORY: Suffering from survivor's guilt and unable to resume his career with the FBI, Mac McKeown moves to northern Minnesota to start over as a general contractor and forget that fateful day that changed everything. When he discovers the body of his nemesis on Glory Palmer's property, along with a warning for her to leave while she still can, Mac realizes his past has come back to haunt him and an innocent woman's life is in grave danger. He vows to keep her safe until the completion of the construction project, but how will he protect his heart?
Prior to publication, DEFENDING GLORY placed 1st in the Inspirational Romance Category at the 2008 Rose City (Portland) Romance Writers Golden Rose Contest, and 1st in the Romance category of the 2008 Charter Oak Romance Writers Golden Acorn Excellence in Writing Contest. In 2009 it was 1st in the Inspirational Category of the Southern Louisiana (SOLA) RWA Chapter Dixie Kane Memorial Contest.
