author, Getting By
Give us a bit of your background (where are you from, your family, traveling adventures)
I was born in Mexico City, married a Texan and moved here at an early age with him. We have three children ages range from nineteen to thirteen. Two of them have learning disabilities but extra abilities to make the world special. We’ve done a few road trips through the US and when we get a chance, we travel to the nearest beach for a full therapy of R&R.
Most writers are readers. What are some of the books you have on your nightstand and/or on your "must read" list?
I’m a book hoarder, thanks to the ebook era it isn’t apparent. I read a little of everything and love it. The one book I’ve read every year since 1993 is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It’s one of those books which meaning changes each time you read it.
What is one silly fact about you?
I’m a very silly person and love to make background noises or music whenever applicable, like suspense tunes “tan, tan, taaaaaaan.” Drumrolls and circus music when I do something worth of a circus act—quiet often.
What other things do you have planned with your writing for the next year or so?
I just finished writing the sequel of Getting By; Standing By. It’s now heading to the editor and hopefully being released before fall. I’m planning on branching my genre to fantasy and sci-fi, next week I start the first draft of one of my projects. Hopefully I can release it by the end of the year.
What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?
Knowing that my words let a reader know they’re not alone, or at least give them that escape from their real life to get sucked into a different world where they don’t have to worry about deadlines, family and the daily routine.
How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
A bit of them, I have a very colorful family that has gone through everything, and when I say everything, I mean everything. On the top of my head I can say that I’m an only biological child, my mother has two younger children and my father has twelve...
How many books have you written, and how many of those have been published?
Five, and I’ve only published two; however there’s a third about to come out of the oven on 7/1/2014—Next To You
It’s a drama about two people with a difficult pasts and afraid of commitment, but is also about family. How family can play a big role in our lives.
If you could sum your main character into five words, what would they be?
Quirky, smart, introvert, geeky and artistic.
Do you have a favorite character you have written so far?
Yes, Mitch Knight. He’s charming, big hearted and passionate.
