Changing Fate

"I mean, it’s Kyler, his voice alone is worth the jump."

Most girls who move during their Senior year are worried about making new friends and fitting in.  Kate isn't like other teenage girls.  All she wants to do is live.  And break as few hearts, including her own, if she didn't.  Kate has been dealing with cystic fibrosis her whole life.  Just her and her mom, her father having abandoned them when she was diagnosed.  But her plans of quietly finishing high school are interrupted by both the vivacious Giana who insists on being her friend, and the good-looking Kyler who may just insist on being more.  But how can Kate open up to them when her future is so uncertain?  And what might happen if they found out her secret?

My Opinion: This was a very moving book.  The raw struggle that brings awareness of the pain and torment of a tragic disease.  The author weaves a stark story full of adrenaline and internal struggle.  It feels like real life and I guarantee you'll need a box of tissues...or two...before it's over.  However, while it did such a great job in this aspect, as a romance it seemed to fall short.  The rest of the world the main character is living in is a bit fuzzy, including the love interest.  After a while, it hardly seemed like Kyler was much of a driving part of the story, though it was compelling in other ways.  Overall a great and moving book, but not a great romance.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
