author, The Land Uncharted
What is your favorite genre to write?
I love love and always want romance to be a bulk of my stories, but I enjoy mixing in other genres like scifi settings, historical feels, and suspenseful situations.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I like a little bit of everything that is not creepy or vulgar. That’s probably evident in my book. It’s a bit of a mash-up.
What is one silly fact about you?
I play bass guitar. Yep, chick bass player.
What got you started on your writing journey?
I started writing stories when I was a kid, and I wrote a novel once in my twenties, but trashed it because I couldn’t imagine people reading it. But my debut novel, The Land Uncharted, came about because my sweet husband challenged me to write it. I was always telling him story ideas that I wanted to weave together into a novel and one day in January 2013 we were driving out in the country looking for an estate sale and out of nowhere he said, “Here’s a challenge for you: I challenge you to write your book.”
Why do you choose to write clean/sweet romance? Do you write steamy romance as well?
I like to keep romance pure. My husband and I waited until our wedding night and that made our dating life way hotter than if we’d given in early. Maybe T.M.I. there, but I like to show the thrill of romance is in the anticipation.
What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?
The actual writing process. I love the creating and world building and plotting.
What are your hero and heroine of the story like?
Lydia is a physician in an isolated 1860’s style village. She is smart, independent, and believes she has no room in her life for romance. Connor is a naval aviator, epitomizes the seven virtues, and is in completely foreign territory. They both had it all together and never saw this coming.
Do you have a favorite character you have written so far?
I do! My favorite so far is Levi Colburn. He is Lydia’s brother--just a secondary character in the first book, but the main character in the second book in this series. He is messed up in a beautiful way.
