Making Ends Meet

Anna Clifton
Contemporary Romance

"But it was the expression in those eyes, just like his daughter’s, that addled Somer. It made her want to reach out her hand to reassure him, or flee in the opposite direction—she wasn’t sure which."

Somer doesn't really want to be a nanny, but a short-term gig might just work.  She can fix this family for an over-worked dad and his two adorable children, including helping to bring the absent wife back into their lives.  Harry needs a nanny to help with his unruly kids, but just until he can convince his ex-wife that she wants to come back home.  He doesn't need a distraction, and certainly not one is the form of Somer who barely wants to be there.  As time goes by, he will have to decide if he wants to convince his ex to come back, or to persuade Somer to stay.

My Opinion: This was an interesting read, with non-standard characters.  While they fit a typical mold of nanny and single dad, there is a stubborn theme of not wanting to fall in love that persists for far longer than one would expect.  This leads to an odd romance and an unusual pairing.  Strange side characters built a stilted world of working together and finding love when you don't want to.  There seem to be other stories connected to side characters that perhaps would have set the stage better.  Overall a fine book, but not my version of a cuddle up and read romance.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
