Second Chance Ranch

Liz Isaacson
Contemporary Romance
Three Rivers Ranch Romance, Book 1

'Been down that road.  Its rocky, and leads you back to your parents basement."

Major Squire Ackerman just wants to prove that he can take over the family ranch so his parents can retire.  Though nothing like his previous military career, he is determined to make it work on his own.  That is, until his father hires the girl he liked in high school as the new accountant.  Kelly is as beautiful as ever, and a distraction, but Squire will have to trust her if he ever hopes to find the mystery of the missing money so his parents can retire being none the wiser that it was missing.  Kelly is back in her hometown and living in her parents basement after a divorce left her with a young son and not much more.  A job at the Three Rivers Ranch is the perfect way to support herself and prove her skills.  That is, if she can keep thoughts of Squire out of her head.

My Opinion: I liked the idea of this book.  It had a lot of potential, but I think that sometimes it got lost and tripped over it's own proverbial feet.  The romance started well, but there were no real stumbling blocks built in that weren't either quickly resolved, or simply ignored.  I felt like there should have been more of a reason to struggle with finding their happily togetherness.  The side characters were a bit flat, thus focusing solely on the easy romance.  There was also a bit of surrealism with her speedy divorce and subsequent emotional recovery of both her and her son.  Overall, it was a decent book, but didn't feel realistic or exciting.

I was given a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
