Desert Rains

Jana S Brown
Science Fiction Romance
The Desert Romance Saga, Volume 1

"Not young enough or beautiful enough with pants too tight to be proper, huh? Well screw you too."

Richard Tyler came to the inhospitable planet of Galileo for one reason and one reason only.  Anna Reches, the girl of his dreams.  To last long enough to prove himself to her father, he needs a job, which leads him to the Double P Ranch.  What he doesn't expect is actually liking his job, the ranch, and especially his employer, Miss Charlene.  No, that was not in the plans at all.  Charlene Petersmire has had a hard time running the ranch she and her brother inherited from their parents.  From the bad weather, conniving neighbors, and her own experiments with plant breeding, she had enough on her plate.  She certainly doesn't need a distraction like her new hand is proving to be.  Can they face the storms Galileo has in store together, or will they be torn apart?

My Opinion: This book had a very interesting setting, much like a displaced Western on another planet, much like the shows Firefly or Killjoys.  The characters were interesting, with a good web of people creating a realistic world.  There were, perhaps, a few too many characters that left behind some frayed plot points, but those will probably be resolved in later volumes in the series.  I felt the story and romance had no substantial arc, with little resistence to their falling in love or ability to be together.  No real surprises were to be found, but there was some adventure and fun.  A sweet book overall, if not a tad bland for my tastes.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
