Nightwatch

Nellie K Neves
Contemporary Romance

"For a brief moment, Emma relaxed and gave into the insanity of this moment—after all, it was a matter of national security."

Emiliana Woodrow is still struggling to make sense of life after her father's murder and her own attack.  It doesn't help with a mysterious man starts showing up, bringing with him more chaos and danger.  Thrown into a world of spies and intrigue, who can she trust?  Because working with the wrong side could be deadly.  Though perhaps not as dangerous as this new mystery man is to her heart.  Can she navigate this strange new world with her life, and heart, intact?

My Opinion: I have a hard time with this one, because it was both good and bad.  In construction, it was rather terrible.  Normal human reactions were choppy and reality was suspended as the author pulled the characters along as the plot moved forward, with or without them.  The characters had no time to process, change, adapt, or become accustomed to drastically changing circumstances.  The story was choppy, like a good second draft that needs some serious smoothing over but with a solid base.  However, it did keep me reading.  The idea of the story and the tantalizing romance kept me reading it, despite it's problems.  Twists in the plot pulled me back in every time I thought to put it down.  The end of the book was vastly better than the beginning.  The end felt like an awesome action movie, with good pace and adrenaline.  Overall, I wish that it had gone through another few drafts to turn a great start into a fabulous product, but I did enjoy it.

I received a free copy of this book to review.  No other compensation was given.  The summary and review are 100% my own.
